Hey
So we're workin on getting the entire dubleplus catalogue up on itunes for your spending pleasure. you will still be able to count on us for awesome FREE releases.....but we are also gonna start selling some stuff, including the new single from Hollerado. The two new songs from Hollerado were recorded this month in montreal by John Kastner and have been decribed (by the stoned guy hangin out in the studio) as "grunge pop". They will be released on october 3rd or 4th or 5th or even 6th (if we really don't have our shit together), but hopefully, definately not on the 7th or god help us the 8th. dubleplus music is pressing 500 limited edition 45's. The album is called "record in a bag".
While you are waiting you might as well go start a band. You get to do fun stuff like try and think of a name. I read this cool post by someone on www.punkottawa.com about naming your band.
check it out. he (or she) was responding to someone who thought that the name kitten force was over the top.

i like kitten force personally
i dont understand why people should be so self-conscious of band names, it has absolutely no bearing on the music. i also dont understand why people would have a problem with over-the-top band names, its just a band, not something you're submitting to the pullitzer committee or launching some hip fashion line. Its four people who are making a bunch of idiotic noise, having fun, providing nothing significant to the world apart from an hour of entertainment for a couple dozen people every couple of weeks, and will probably be completely forgotten in 10-20 years. Most band names that try to sound "serious" are fucking stupid and make absolutely no sense when you read the words and actually think about what they mean
my old band had a really ridiculous/intentionally lame name, mostly because we argued over the name for so long we just agreed to go with the stupidest name we had come up with because it seemed to satisfy everyone in the band
i'd say we got two types of reactions, there were the people who got a laugh out of it and were like "that name is awesome!" and there were the people who just scoffed at it pretentiously, in this sort of "this doesn't fit in with my pre-conceived notions of hip-ness" sort of way. Of the first group, it tended to be more people who occasionally went to shows, didnt take themselves/life too seriously, and were just out to have a good time. Most of the 2nd category were more scenester types who think they are really deep into music, conduct themselves as if they know everything there is to know about some obscure genre of music, but actually have a really superficial view of music/life. As you can tell, I dont think too highly of those sorts of people/behaviour, but the reality is they are probably going to be the people who come out to shows regularly and can hook you up with stuff
Ideally, people who know whats up listen to the music and judge it for what it is. In reality, alot of people are superficial and are incapable of seeing past images. Whether that be your band name, the image you project from your shirts, or the way you dress or whatever, thats how people make their judgements. Whether it be music tastes or voting, its just human nature for alot of people i guess?
For myself, I'm more likely to be turned off by bands that have really pretentious names that try to make themselves out to be more artsy/poetic/deep than anyone in the band actually is in real life. Or they'll reference quotes from famous poems/literary works, or just steal the names of famous books, even though probably no one in the band ever read the book, knows anything about it, or has zero relevance to anything the band sings about. They just think it "sounds cool" or something. To me, I hate this, because it sets off my bullshit detector and I end up thinking those people are full of both shit and themselves.
I'd say try to be original, avoid cliches, and pick something that stands out, and hope for the best
also, you can never go wrong with a pun
